Check display hinge mechanism
Bottom lineOpen the lid slowly: it should move smoothly with no creaking, hold any angle (45°, 90°, 120°) without sagging, and close flush with even gaps on both sides. A hinge that drops, wobbles, or grinds will only get worse and may indicate a drop or a prior display swap.
Test Opening Motion
Open the lid slowly. It should move smoothly without resistance or grinding sounds
Test Angle Retention
Open to various angles (45°, 90°, 120°). The display should stay in position without drooping
Check for Wobble
With display open, gently tap the back. It should not wobble excessively
Test Closing Motion
Close the lid. It should close smoothly, sit flush, and align evenly without scraping
Warning: Loose hinges that don't hold position may worsen over time. Grinding sounds indicate potential hinge failure.
