Test magnetic charging functionality
Bottom lineBring the MagSafe 3 cable near the port—it should snap in by itself and the LED should light amber (charging) or green (full). The menu bar battery should show Charging. A cable that won't stay attached or an LED that stays off points to a damaged port or a non-original cable.
Check Magnetic Alignment
Bring MagSafe cable near the port. It should snap into place magnetically
Verify Charging Indicator
The LED on MagSafe should light up: amber = charging, green = fully charged
Check Charging Status
Click battery icon in menu bar. Should show 'Charging' or 'Power Source: Power Adapter'
Test Different Angles
Gently move the cable. It should stay connected and continue charging
Note: MagSafe 3 is available only on supported models, including newer MacBook Air and 14-inch/16-inch MacBook Pro. Some Macs charge only through USB-C.
