Screen Coating Check
Inspect for anti-reflective coating damage
Bottom lineWipe the screen with a damp microfiber cloth and inspect it under bright light: cloudy patches, permanent stains, or mixed glossy and matte areas mean the anti-reflective coating is peeling (Staingate). Coating damage is cosmetic but usually not repairable and should lower the price.
Clean the Screen
Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water
Wipe Gently
Wipe the entire screen in circular motions
Check for Stains
Look for permanent stains, spots, or uneven areas
Inspect Under Light
View the screen at different angles under good lighting
Note: Signs of coating damage include cloudy patches, permanent stains that will not wipe off, or uneven shiny and matte areas.
